Laci: Federal background checks are already required for any gun purchase from a licensed dealer. And I understand the thinking behind registration, but honestly, how would that have stopped, the Fort Hood shooter? Or the VT shooter? So the gun is registered in their names, how does that stop someone from shooting people? Registration is not going to stop someone like those I mentioned from doing terrible things like they did. It just won’t. Canada has or is in the process of eliminating their own long arm registration requirement of its citizens. So if it works, why are they doing that? By the way none of that is rhetorical, I would really like to hear your response to the questions.

Also, what specific issue am I “dodging” that Bill presented? I didn’t see one, but I’ll gladly give my take on it.

How about background checks and registration?

You cite the Heller decision, John. Did you realise that Heller did not get rid of DC’s registration requirement? did you realise that Heller was unable to register one of his guns?

Also, if Miller could be overturned (which Heller did), why can’t Heller be overturned? In fact, Heller should be overturned as being totally without basis in law or reality.

As Bill points out, you are trying to dodge the issue and raise arguments that are more emotional than realistic.

So, John, cut the sound bites, stop citing Kleck and Lott, and realise that your arguments don’t hold water.

Bill, I don’t understand why you can’t have a serious discussion on the subject? Your articles call for serious discussions about gun control yet you are incapable of having one here. I would seriously like to read what policy and legislative changes you would like to see happen.

Not sure of your point here. Was the emphasis used to suggest no mass murderers buy their weapons legally, thus creating the argument that if the legal market is cut off there would be no illegal market?

The VT shooter bought his weapons legally. Good try though.

So if there ever is a “serious, adult dialogue” concerning gun control, you wouldn’t be included I am guessing.

I understand you are still bitter over the Heller ruling, but get over it.
