Yep, That’s Beck, All Right

From Paul Krugman’s latest NYT column about the U.S. badly needing a jobs bill:

We could, for example, have New-Deal-style employment programs. Perhaps such a thing is politically impossible now — Glenn Beck would describe anything like the Works Progress Administration as a plan to recruit pro-Obama brownshirts — but we should note, for the record, that at their peak, the W.P.A. and the Civilian Conservation Corps employed millions of Americans, at relatively low cost to the budget.”

The really sad thing about this is that in the 1930s there were no half-assed TV and radio commentators with barely a high school education scaring FDR so much that he modified policies and fired staffers because he feared their vitriol. If Beck and Limbaugh and the rest want to be in this light, they are more than mere “entertainers” (which is the façade they hide behind whenever they get called for some piece of BS) and should be charged with treason.
