“Fearmongering” Is An Accurate Term

…and one thing the GOP is still good at is using fear. Pathetic, but all too true.
From today’s SF Chronicle:
Few issues are riper for fearmongering than health care. Overconfident Democrats, focused more on covering the uninsured than reassuring those who have coverage, may have moved too far too fast, given growing public skepticism about [...]

*****************Weasel of The Week******************

“You heard me — I’m not a complete asshole — just a 90 percent one!!”

An easy pick this time: Sen. Charles “Horse’s Ass” Grassley, for stabbing the President in the back with his idiotic “death panel” comments at a rally in Iowa.
This buffoon, who never met a microphone he didn’t like, has also [...]

MSNBC’s “Big Ed” Schultz on Town-Hall Loudmouths

“They’re stupid, white, undereducated nut jobs.”
He didn’t leave too much out, did he?
He did miss something — until Ed added this on his national radio show:
“It’s the 50’s-60’s white crowd who can’t stand the fact that there’s a black guy in the White House.”
That pretty much covers it.

Sen. Al Franken’s Cool Hidden Talent

New Sen. Al Franken certainly isn’t a Washington weasel.  (Not yet, anyway).  Just the opposite.
He makes a guest appearance here today because of a little-known, unusual talent he has — drawing a map of the U.S. freehand and from memory.

(If Okie Sen. Tom Coburn or his dimbulb GOP pal Mitch “Senator McChinless” [...]

Even Alaska’s GOP Senator Offended by Palin’s Idiotic Remarks

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski Tuesday told an Anchorage crowd that critics of health care reform, the summer’s hottest political topic, aren’t helping the debate by throwing out highly charged assertions not based in fact.

“It does us no good to incite fear in people by saying that there’s these end-of-life provisions, these death panels,” Murkowski, [...]

Jon Carroll on Rachel Maddow

The SF Chronicle’s Jon Carroll may be the most stylish writer working for a daily newspaper. His column on MSNBC’s brainy and thoughtful Rachel Maddow is one of the better pieces on her appeal.  Recommended reading.

Good Quote re Astroturfers

S.F. political comic Will Durst:
“If youth is wasted on the young, does that mean democracy is wasted on the dim?”

Ron Reagan, His Dad, and The Nazis

Liberal radio talk host Ron Reagan, on his Air America show, tells how his future-President Dad showed him what the real Nazis did at Auschwitz.
Ron Jr’s rant about radio right-wingers invoking Hitler’s name for ratings is the subject of my latest Huffington Post piece here.
