From the NYTimes humor page:
“President Obama says he wants a health care bill on his desk by October. So I sent him the one for my kid’s appendectomy.” – Todd Long

How could funny NYTimes columnist Gail Collins resist writing about the bizarro Sen. John “Stud Muffin” Ensign affair, complete with his Mommy and daddy kicking in some bucks for hush money? Collins’ column is a fun read. An excerpt:
“We hardly need to point out that Ensign was one of the people who demanded that President [...]
Veteran blogger and best-selling author (“Inside Job”) Steve Pizzo, who helped break the S&L scandal, offers this in his “News For Real” blog today about the latest D.C. faux whining:
“No one on the right wrung their hands and worried, “how will we pay for this,” when they enthusiastically passed George W. Bush’s $1.6 trillion in [...]
SF Radio Examiner’s Brad Kava put it perfectly after hearing a fatuous radio discussion on Jacko’s core beliefs:
“Michael’s religion was mostly narcisism and self-promotion, and you know it.”
…actually, it’s because it’s prime time for this twit to cash in. Rupert Murdoch is shovelling $2 million her way to have a book ghostwritten, she’ll get 50K a pop for speeches, etc., etc.

The hagiographic, absurd media coverage of Michael Jackson’s death the past few days is not a good omen for society.
Our corporate media are, simply put, whores.
I’ve done a blog on this for Huffington Post that’s here…
It didn’t get nearly as much play as a previous Congressional Budget Office cost estimate, but the latest one, as the NYTimes‘ Paul Krugman reports in his column today, is that — quel surprise! — it’s doable. Just like in every other developed country.
Krugman:
“But last week the budget office scored the full proposed legislation from [...]
Recommended: The Times’ Bob Herbert’s first-rate column about Michael Jackson’s immaturity — and society’s.
“The Michael-mania that has erupted since Jackson’s death — not just an appreciation of his music, but a giddy celebration of his life — is yet another spasm of the culture opting for fantasy over reality. We don’t want to look under [...]
