David Waldman of The Daily Kos has a great idea today — tell the Republic party to seat Al Franken in Minnesota or we keep Sen. Arlen “Party Switcher” Specter’s coveted committee seats. Waldman:
“Seat Al Franken and give him his committee assignments now, or we’ll block a new organizing resolution that would let you reassign Specter’s previously Republican committee seats to one of your own.
“Until a new organizing resolution is adopted, ” writes Waldman, “Specter’s committee seats (Appropriations, Judiciary, Veterans’ Affairs, Environment & Public Works, Special Aging) are locked in. He’ll be caucusing and (sometimes, anyway) voting as a Democrat, but will be occupying Republican seats.”
It makes perfect sense: Time to play the kind of hardball the GOP and Tom “The Exterminator” DeLay (a “Weasel” Hall of Famer) played with the Dems for years.
Besides, a new Minneapolis Star poll this week shows an overwhelming majority of Minnesotans are fed up with ex-Sen. Norm “Stove” Coleman’s never-ending legal appeals.
If Coleman loses in the Minnesota Supreme Court, many observers are saying, he’ll finally throw in the towel.
Why won’t he take his appeal to Scalia and the Supremes? Most Washington sources are saying the court won’t touch the case — this one, anyway.
