Foundation to Save Newspapers DOES Have Precedent

Robert Maynard, the late owner of the Oakland Tribune, was a historical and inspirational figure. The first African-American to be publisher of a major American daily, he was also, I might add, the best publisher I ever worked for.   (He tolerated my foolishness for over a decade).  This piece on how Bob and Nancy Maynard saved the Trib through a private foundation shows that there IS a precedent for this.
