Olbermann — A TV Critic’s Nightmare

It’s because of his screw-ups. The lack of them.

It makes us TV critics uncomfortable — unneeded, actually — to see something as well-done as MSNBC’s “Countdown.”   This was the one downside of “The Sopranos.”  Very little to complain about, and we critics are paid to bitch and cavil. It’s part of the job description.

There are almost as many gems each night on “Countdown” as you’ll find  on what is almost certainly TV’s cleverest show, “The Colbert Report.”

The Big Guy was on a roll Friday, and so were his writers at MSNBC,  supplying graphics like “Yes, We Afghan” (over a story on Obama’s  just-announced Afghanistan policy),  or “Diva La Revolucion!” over a piece on Rep. Michelle “Overdrive” Bachman’s latest looneytoon rantings, these about re-taking the Capitol (and presumably taking out the Black Helicopters just loaded with the new World Currency).

Another gem: Referring to preternaturally embarrassing Fox News’  Gretchen “”Haunted” Carlson (Miss America…Unsashed!) as a “rocket scientist.”

Olbermann also let it to known that UPS has bailed on Bill O’Reilly’s nightly Fox News dyspeptic rantings after Bully, er Billy Boy  sent a producer to stalk a hostile female blogger.

(I had my own unpleasant encounter with Mr. O’Reilly not long ago after interviewing him and then writing an unflattering newspaper column about the obnoxious loudmouth.  More on this at a later day).

What I want to see most:  Bill-O The Clown and Keith O. facing off in the ring.  Gloves optional.

Olbermann would kick B.O’s butt. Because that’s what usually happens to bullies.
